As a researcher you will contribute to climate-robust developments and climate adaptation for different sectors at the Flemish, European and international level in support of environmental and climate policy:

  • You develop “climate services” for governments, (inter)national organizations and companies;
  • You process large amounts of climate data into customer-oriented applications;
  • You develop models to study the climate and the impact of climate change and help determine the impact of adaptation measures for industry, health, agriculture, ecosystems and society;
  • Besides the development of the models, you are responsible for the analysis of the model results and the reporting to the customer or end user;
  • Together with your fellow researchers you integrate your knowledge and expertise in projects, report the results and publish in scientific journals.

  • You hold a master or engineering degree in the exact or applied sciences. Knowledge related to weather and climate through an (additional) training/course or a relevant PhD is a plus, but most important is that you are willing to get up to speed in this area and learn continuously.
  • You have knowledge of (at least) one of the following domains:
    • Statistical processing of large data sets, extreme value statistics, bias correction, neural networks;
    • Research experience with atmospheric models or other physico-mathematical models.
  • Working in a Linux computing cluster environment, programming and using scripting tools such as Python, Matlab, R, Bash and Fortran do not scare you.
  • You have experience with visualization of spatial 2D or 3D data. Experience with GIS software is a plus.
  • Foreign research experience or experience with policy support research are plus points.
  • You have a good command of English, spoken and written.
  • You master autonomous and self-responsible working, but have team working skills as well.
  • Working in a multidisciplinary context with experts from other domains (health, agriculture, urban planning, etc.) does not scare you.
  • You are good with deadlines.

  • A competitive salary
  • A range of benefits including allowances, insurances, adjustable holiday package
  • Flexible working hours and workplace
  • Innovation is our core asset, therefore it goes without saying that we give our employees the opportunity to undertake additional training and keep up to date in their field of expertise
  • The chance to be part of an organisation with an international reputation, known for its advanced technological research and scientific consultancy
  • The possibility to actively contribute towards sustainable developments at local, national and global level
