For the third year in a row, VITO has organised the Belgian ClimateLaunchpad cleantech business idea competition and for the third time round, VITO has managed to get a Belgian team on the European stage. (Top 15!)
Tickets for the finals are getting scarcer each year due to the increasing number of participating countries, with 105 ideas in total, compared to 84 submitted ideas in the previous year.
After a strong Belgian final with top 3 VITO FunMem, Feniks and Snodonia, we went off to Limassol, Cyprus with extra coaching sessions in preparation for the European Final. During the semi-finals, Feniks got off to a good start and made it to the top 15, good for a pitch on the main stage.
Apart from the main competition, there were several theme competitions, but unfortunately no Belgian team got selected.
Important are the many connections the Belgian teams were able to establish with Technology Scouts, potential investors.
The big winner of this year’s 2-day competition was the Austrian Vienna Textile Lab, introducing bacteria colorants. They were not only awarded the public prize, but they were also selected by the jury as 3rd best. An excellent opportunity for team FunMem to network and share knowledge, as Functional membranes can also be used for the separation of bacteria.
On to CLP 2018!
