Flanders is totally cleantech! Many companies applied as candidates for the first Cleantech Hero Water technology. However, there can only be one Cleantech Hero for Water technology. And that is BOSAQ, a company that develops innovative technology for decentralised drinking water purification solutions.

More and more companies and organisations are responding to the demand for sustainability. To make their innovative cleantech solutions more widely known, Cleantech Flanders is organising the Cleantech Flanders Hero for the first time this year. Four times a year, an organisation from a different cleantech domain that develops innovative cleantech solutions is rewarded with the prestigious Cleantech Hero label. This year's first Cleantech Hero label goes to a company that excels in water technology. The themes of circular economy, energy and mobility will follow later this year.

About the winner

The jury for this first Cleantech Flanders Hero included Claire Tillekaerts (FIT), Dirk Fransaer (VITO), Marc Nuytemans (Blauwe Cluster), Dirk Halet (VLAKWA) and Frans Snijkers (Cleantech Flanders). After an initial selection, three finalists were chosen: BOSAQ, Hydrovolta and InOpSys. In the end, the jury decided that BOSAQ is the perfect ambassador for Cleantech Hero Water technology.

In its report, the jury praised the company not only for its strong commitment to circular economy, but also for its attention to socially responsible entrepreneurship. BOSAQ donates at least 10% of its profits to the non-profit organisation Water Heroes, which helps vulnerable local communities gain access to better sanitary facilities and clear drinking water. BOSAQ also takes care of capacity building and technology transfer to the local population. It manages to combine sustainable objectives and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Its international approach and ambition and the fact that it also focuses on the SDGs strengthened its position. BOSAQ is a true Cleantech Hero Water technology.

Companies that win the award, gain momentum during a whole year. Not only do they get to wear the label for a year, but they also have the privilege of presenting their innovation at G-STIC 2022 and they receive promotional support through Cleantech Flanders channels. Furthermore, the winner will be offered a 2-minute company report in which their company is presented that can be used for promotional purposes.
