De belangrijkste referentie voor energiegegevens in Vlaanderen is VITO’s jaarlijkse energiebalans van het Vlaamse Gewest, inclusief een inventaris van de hernieuwbare energie en de warmtekrachtkoppeling (CHP).

De energiebalans geeft een algemeen overzicht van energieverbruik en productie van fossiele brandstoffen en hernieuwbare energiebronnen in Vlaanderen. De balans is gebaseerd op uitstootrapporten, enquêtes bij bedrijven en overheid en algemene statistieken en modellen.
