Christoph Becker is a researcher at the Material & Chemical Unit of the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO), PhD advisor at the University of Antwerp, and a member of the International Solid Waste Association's (ISWA) Working Group on Recycling and Waste Minimisation (WGRWM).

His work focuses on material management and digital technologies within circular economic models of critical raw materials, plastics, municipal solid waste, and electronic waste. He is particularly interested in how visions of a circular economy shape the sociotechnical imaginaries of waste management and the role digital, data and deep learning solutions are proposed to play.

Previously, he was a PostDoc at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics and the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Amsterdam, where he developed modelling methodologies for analysing complex systems and helped to set up the POLDER Center for policy decision-support.

He obtained his PhD at the Institute for Computational Cosmology and the Institute for Data Science with the support of the STFC/CDT scholarship on phenomenological studies of theories of gravity using computational simulations.
