For investors and entrepreneurs

VITO injects knowledge, intellectual property and sustainability into the economy. In doing so, VITO strengthens the Flemish economy, which lies at the heart of VITO’s mission. Technology is commercialised through a technology sale, a licence, a spin-off or a joint venture. Every technology transfer is different, and the process is tailored on a case-by-case basis.

Our spin-offs and licences

New companies are established to bring VITO technology to the market. This is done either by VITO employees or by external entrepreneurs. Are you an entrepreneur? Do you possess specific knowledge of a particular market and believe you can help VITO to commercialise one of its technologies? Then do not hesitate to get in touch! Below you will find more information about our latest spin-offs.

VITO also offers an extensive portfolio of innovations and patents. We transfer know-how related to the technology to your company and grant a licence for the use of the technology and the patents. Both exclusive and non-exclusive licences are available.

Specific programmes for valorisation

At VITO, we have specific programmes aimed at identifying valorisation opportunities, such as AYOUBI (Accelerate Your Business Idea), an initiative that encourages our staff to share promising business ideas. We provide support for commercial development and ensure the formation of a team that balances VITO expertise with external entrepreneurship.

ImmuneSpec provides in-depth insight into how our bodies defend themselves against diseases. Their advanced analysis technology, immunopeptidomics, precisely identifies which small protein fragments activate our immune system. This knowledge accelerates the development of better vaccines, immunotherapies and gene therapies.

UniFly is a global leader in developing digital air traffic systems for drones. Their technology makes it visible where drones are flying and helps to organise air traffic safely. This allows drones and conventional aircraft to share the same airspace safely and efficiently. In this way, UniFly contributes to safer aviation.

Molecular Plasma Group (MPG) uses a sustainable plasma technique to give materials new properties. Plasma is an energy-rich gas that can modify the surface of materials without damaging them. As a result, even materials that are difficult to combine can adhere better or become water- and dirt-repellent.

Blue Foot Membranes has developed a sustainable membrane technology to purify and reuse wastewater efficiently. Their unique IPC® membranes are fine, robust filters that block dirt and bacteria while allowing clean water to pass through. They consume little energy and are suitable for both industry and municipalities.

IFLUX monitors groundwater with smart sensors and special samplers that show how groundwater flows and where contamination is located. The real-time data help drinking water companies, soil remediation teams, urban planners and nature managers to make faster and more targeted decisions for sustainable groundwater protection.

Sitemark uses camera drones and intelligent software to map solar parks, roadworks and mining sites clearly. The drone images are analysed with AI and immediately reveal where problems are located. This enables energy and construction companies to know exactly what needs to be addressed to make their installations safer and more efficient.

Normec Servaco helps companies test materials, products and environments. They conduct analyses for industry, construction and environment and investigate which substances products emit indoors that affect air quality. Their modern measurement techniques provide clear insights to improve that air quality.

HITA develops deep geothermal energy, a technique that uses the Earth’s natural heat as a sustainable energy source. By drilling more than 1,000 metres deep, HITA can supply heat to homes and companies via heating networks. In this way, they help municipalities and industry to heat locally and in an environmentally friendly manner.

Enperas makes it easy for companies to calculate the ecological impact of their construction products. With their smart software, manufacturers can quickly see how much CO2, energy, water and materials a product consumes over its entire lifecycle. This enables companies to obtain certifications more easily and reduce their environmental impact.

With artificial intelligence, serious eye conditions such as damage caused by diabetes and glaucoma, can be detected much faster and more easily. MONA makes this possible with a new eye screening method that combines medical research from KU Leuven with advanced AI techniques from VITO.

Many industrial separation processes consume a lot of energy. A-membranes has developed smart ceramic filters that separate liquids more efficiently. Thanks to a special layer, the filters selectively allow substances to pass through or block them. This makes difficult separation processes simpler and more energy-efficient for companies.

Laser Cladding Venture uses a powerful laser to melt metal powder onto components. This creates a robust new layer that protects parts better against wear and corrosion, extending the lifespan of machines. The same technique can be used to repair or even print components, similar to 3D printing.

Xbat.ai develops intelligent technology to sort batteries safely and efficiently. Their system uses artificial intelligence and X-ray images to automatically recognise and sort all types of household batteries. This helps sorting companies avoid risks and work faster and more accurately than manual sorting.

Pleevi develops smart AI-driven charging software for electric vehicles on company sites. The platform schedules charging sessions based on departure times, solar energy, building consumption, grid constraints and dynamic tariffs. This reduces charging costs by around 30% and increases the use of green electricity, while ensuring vehicles are always charged on time.

Hyve develops technology that enables companies to produce green hydrogen and convert captured CO2 into valuable raw materials for new products. This allows industries to significantly reduce their emissions, use fewer fossil resources and switch to circular, future-proof production processes.

Activ84Health developed Memoride, a smart technology that allows elderly people to cycle virtually via an exercise bike, a screen and Google Street View. They can ride through familiar streets or discover new places. This keeps residents in care and rehabilitation centres more physically active and brings beautiful memories and stories to life.

Orion Grid Technologies develops intelligent software that gives grid operators real-time insight into their low-voltage network. By combining data from smart meters and GIS data with AI, the platform shows where the grid is under pressure. Orion supports both operational control and strategic investments, ensuring their low-voltage network remains reliable and affordable.

Clean Vision Invest

With Clean Vision Invest, one of the greatest challenges faced by very young spin-offs – securing funding – is already addressed. This fund supports young spin-offs during their early development, enabling them to quickly step into economic reality and grow.

Clean Vision Invest is an independent investment vehicle, a separate VITO entity with its own management, that invests in VITO spin-offs. Through this proactive approach, Clean Vision Invest fosters spin-offs built upon VITO’s innovations. In doing so, CVI enhances the financial viability of these spin-offs, ultimately preparing them to secure growth capital from investors or to be taken over.

Clean Vision Invest supports VITO’s valorisation strategy and aims to become a successful enterprise. In 2026, the fund will be evaluated to determine whether it would be appropriate to allow external investors to contribute to investments in sustainable technology.
