Milica Velimirovic

Milica Velimirovic obtained her PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from the University of Antwerp in 2013, in collaboration with the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO), Belgium. From 2013 to 2019, she held a postdoctoral position at the Department of Environmental Geosciences, University of Vienna (Austria), where she focused on the development, validation, and standardisation of analytical methods based on field-flow fractionation coupled with ICP-MS.
Her work supported the implementation of the European Commission's recommendation on nanomaterials and contributed to advancing nanomaterial characterisation and risk assessment. After that she was senior postdoctoral researcher (FWO) at the research group “Atomic and Mass Spectrometry” at the Department of Chemistry, Ghent University (Belgium). Following her postdoctoral research, she was awarded a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship at VITO, where she further expanded her expertise in environmental and human health aspects of emerging contaminants including micro- and nanoplastics and advanced analytical technologies.
Currently, Milica works as an R&D professional at VITO, where she is involved in the development and coordination of innovative research projects at the interface of environmental science, advanced analytics, and sustainability. Her research interests include the development of mass spectrometry-based analytical strategies, the characterisation of complex materials and contaminants, and the assessment of their environmental and health impacts. She actively contributes to national and European research initiatives, fostering collaborations between academia, industry, and policy stakeholders.
