Scientists working on GDE

Optimise your processes with gas diffusion electrodes (GDE)

With gas diffusion electrodes (GDE) you can optimise the electrochemical and bioelectrochemical processes within your company. They offer an alternative to pressurized water reactors, are the perfect substrate for a (bio)electrocatalyst and they improve the mass transfer to the reaction site in the liquid phase, preventing diffusion limitation.

Tailor-made electrodes

For each specific challenge, we design tailor-made electrodes, from lab to pilot scale. We couple conversion with separation and develop a solution for your specific situation. By minimising the steps in the process, we shorten the path to industrial upscaling.

Gas diffusion electrodes play a key role in the electrification of the chemical industry and the electroconversion of CO₂ into chemicals. They also offer solutions for the wastewater treatment industry.

Typical  processes that benefit from enhanced gas supply are:

  • CO2 (bio)electroreduction (electrosynthesis) at near-ambient pressure,
  • In-situ hydrogen peroxide generation,
  • Oxygen reduction in low-temperature fuel cells,
  • Organics oxidation in Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs),
  • Reclamation of metals from diluted waste streams (1-10 ppm range), without the application of additives and easy recovery of the metal oxide precipitates,
  • Electrosynthesis of nanoparticles with well-defined sizes and uniform particle size distribution.

The benefits of gas diffusion electrodes

When we collaborate to optimise your processes, we make sure that our tailor-made gas diffusion electrodes:

  • optimise the use of catalysts and raw materials
  • reduce waste
  • lower your costs
  • recover energy and chemicals from waste streams
  • shorten the path to industrial upscaling.
