Solar energy is a renewable energy source that plays a significant role in decarbonizing our energy mix. While the installation of PV systems has greatly increased over the past decade, many households face substantial financial, technical, or legal hurdles when considering investing in solar energy. As part of the CIRCUSOL project, VITO investigated whether circular business models could help lower these barriers.

In the period of 2022-2026, VITO will continue to be a key partner for the European Environment Agency, as coordinating partner of two European Topic Centres (ETCs) and partner in two others.

VITO has developed a web-based tool that can offer businesses and investors a more solid foundation for the funding of circular projects, initiatives and business models. ‘We were seeking a balance between an easily accessible instrument and a nuanced, data-rich tool.’
