VITO attracts over 3,000 curious visitors at the Nerdland Festival 2025
We look back on a successful edition of the Nerdland Festival 2025, which saw 2,000 visitors stop by the VITO booth and around 1,000 attendees at our live shows. Science, humor, and interaction were at the heart of the experience.
From 6 to 9 June, VITO once again took part in the Nerdland Festival in Wachtebeke – the country’s largest science festival. Despite the changeable weather, no fewer than 2,000 visitors found their way to our interactive stand, ‘Always Exploring’.
They immersed themselves in the world of Earth observation and remote sensing, discovering how drones and satellites help us visualise our planet.
Our three live shows also drew plenty of interest: around 1,000 festival-goers took a seat to enjoy a dose of science with a surprising twist.

Gilles Van Eygen demonstrated how smart membranes help remove substances such as PFAS from water.

Jan Jordens, Kristof Tirez and Wim Elen took the audience on a quest to detect the tiniest concentrations.

Victor Sonck demonstrated how X-rays and AI are shaping the future of battery recycling.
