ACTRIS-Flanders
ACTRIS is a European research infrastructure delivering high-quality data on aerosols, clouds and trace gases to advance climate and air quality science.
Cleaner air, healthier cities and informed policy
ACTRIS is a European research infrastructure delivering high-quality data on aerosols, clouds and trace gases to advance climate and air quality science.
Within this European scope, ACTRIS-Flanders is a mobile platform enabling flexible, high-resolution air quality monitoring in urban and hotspot environments. It addresses key scientific questions on pollutant dynamics, exposure and health, while supporting innovation, policy and sensor validation.
Activities and services
ACTRIS provides high-quality data and access to facilities for atmospheric research. It supports science, policy and innovation through standardised observations and services.
ACTRIS-Flanders offers high-resolution air quality monitoring that enables targeted campaigns and support for local and European air quality policies. It offers a modular platform and includes two trailers with high-end monitors for aerosol parameters (ultrafine particles and black carbon) and gases (nitrogen oxides, ozone and volatile organic compounds). Beyond that, the Flemish infrastructure also provides portable tools that allow for mobile mapping of air quality.
Impact
ACTRIS aims to respond to major societal challenges, namely the need for a deeper understanding of atmospheric processes and air quality to mitigate the effects of air pollution.
ACTRIS-Flanders strengthens Flanders’ role in European air quality research and contributes to the mobile facilities in ACTRIS. It enhances collaboration and data harmonisation and can synergise with Flemish RIs like EIRENE and ICOS for joint research on air pollution, health and climate.
