As VITO wants to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world, we work in India, where fast transitions are taking place and where we can have an impact. We have undertaken research projects in collaboration with India since 2007, starting with bio-economy and green chemistry. We also provide services related to air quality, waste water and organic waste treatment, smart cities, CO2 conversion, river basin management and capacity building on sustainable development practices.

The following typical projects are underway

  • Conversion of CO2 to ethanol through bio-electro chemistry with Indian Oil
  • Pilot installation ANDICOS in Hyderabad with Ion Exchange : waste water treatment in combination with organic waste treatment with energy production
  • Air quality monitoring, modeling and forecasting for Delhi and selected cities in collaboration with TERI and the Central Polution Control Board

  • Management Development Program on Eco-Innovation, Sustainable Design and Business Solutions for Transformative CSR and Sustainability, in collaboration with Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs

  • MoU with IL&FS and Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company for industrial waste water projects
  • MOU with Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar (IIPH-G), on heat-health risk reduction strategies and action plans
