LIBOVITO is appreciated by Chinese government for its contribution in providing air quality forecast service for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
On March 24, 2022, China National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC) sent a Letter of Appreciation to LIBOVITO for its consistent efforts and unique achievement in providing air quality forecast service for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
CNEMC emphasized in the letter that “LIBOVITO took its advantage in environmental modelling to carry out in-depth technical research and build up a dedicated refined air quality forecast system (OPAQ) for the Beijing Winter Games. Accurate air quality forecast data provided efficient and powerful support to scientific decision-making and air quality management for the Olympic games organizer.”
LIBOVITO’s contribution and achievement shows its great value to the success of Beijing Winter Games. Beijing is the only city in the Olympic history that has held both summer and winter Olympic Games: 2008 summer games and 2022 winter games. VITO/LIBOVITO has made its contribution on air quality forecast to both Games.
Starting from 2022, LIBOVITO, with the support from our VITO colleagues here in Belgium, is cooperating with CNEMC to set up a national-scale refined air quality statistical forecast platform involving in all 1734 national air quality monitoring stations. The accomplished platform will become a key part of China national air quality forecast system, making LIBOVITO one of the top players in this area in China.
China Ministry of Ecology and Environment said on March 30 that the average concentration of PM2.5 in Beijing and Zhangjiakou was 36μg/m3 and 22μg/m3 respectively during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, a decline of 56% and 50% compared to the same period in 2021.
