Air quality management systems

Managing air quality and odour isn't just about regulatory compliance, it’s about protecting public health and keeping community trust. Whether you need precise stack measurements, predictive dispersion modelling, or actionable abatement strategies, VITO provides the independent science you need to act with confidence. Backed by ISO 17025 accreditation, we help industrial operators and public authorities turn complex environmental data into clear decisions.

Modelling & forecast

Get clear air quality data through web applications, desktop tools, and advisory services. Using platforms like VITO’s ATMOSYS dashboard, authorities and industrial operators can forecast pollution episodes and evaluate the impact of emission reduction scenarios before making key decisions.

Measurements

Obtain precise air quality, exposure, and odour data across any environment, including stack emissions, workplaces, traffic hotspots, and indoor spaces. Choose from stationary or mobile setups using reference instruments, olfactometry, e-noses, or sensor networks. ISO-accredited lab facilities allow you to test purification systems, calibrate sensors, and analyse gas and particle speciation.

Abatement

When regulatory limits or risk assessments demand lower pollution levels, find the most practical path forward. Compare viable remediation technologies through clear feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses designed for your specific setup.

Infrastructure

  • UFP, nanoparticles, PM0.1, PM1, PM2.5, PM10
  • (very / semi) Volatile organic compounds, flame retardents, dioxins, PCB, phthalates, polyaromatic organic compounds
  • Inorganic compounds; NOX, NO, NO2, SO2, CO, CO2, HF, HCl, H2S, etc.
  • Heavy metals, sulfur, etc.
  • Black carbon, sooting

Reference lab for the Flemish Government

As the designated Reference Laboratory for the Flemish Government, VITO maintains the benchmark for measurement standards across the region. This mandate includes:

  • Advising the Department of the Environment on official laboratory recognition.

  • Conducting proficiency testing and unannounced audits to ensure laboratory quality.

  • Developing, validating, and publishing standard analysis and measurement methods.
