Flax is rapidly gaining ground as a sustainable, bio-based raw material — and Belgian company Vlastic is turning it into a fully circular material for functional interior applications. To help bring this innovation from prototype to market, Vlastic has entered into a strategic collaboration with VITO through the BIO-CAPPP voucher scheme.

From local crop to certified innovation

Vlastic's material is produced through a unique process that allows a 100% circular approach: by adjusting parameters during production, the material can be tailored into different versions, each with its own distinct properties. The partnership with VITO focuses on optimizing this process and on standardizing, certifying and characterizing the material so that it meets the requirements of the construction and building sector.

"This collaboration marks a critical milestone in our journey from prototype to market-ready product," says Dries Laperre from Vlastic. "Working with VITO's expertise in bio-based materials ensures that we meet industry standards."
