VITO and IMHEN join forces to enhance urban climate resilience in Viet Nam
The Viet Nam Institute for Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (IMHEN) and the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing urban climate resilience in Viet Nam. This cooperation seeks to address the growing challenges posed by climate change, focusing on developing sustainable solutions for Viet Nam’s cities.

The primary goal of the MoU is to explore opportunities for joint research and technological development in the fields of meteorology, hydrology, environment, climate change, urban planning, renewable energy, and sustainable development. The collaboration will specifically target urban climate resilience, with an emphasis on heat stress, urban flooding, air quality, and climate adaptation strategies. This effort will also support the creation of urban climate monitoring and forecasting systems, along with the development of climate change scenarios tailored to Viet Nam’s urban environments.
Additionally, VITO and IMHEN will explore research collaborations on climate technologies and sustainable energy solutions. The MoU also highlights the importance of actively seeking funding to support these activities, ensuring their successful implementation.
This collaboration marks a significant step in fostering international cooperation to address climate change in Viet Nam, reinforcing the efforts to build sustainable, climate-resilient urban areas.
