KLIMPALA: helping African stakeholders handle climate change
The KLIMPALA project focused on stakeholders in the agricultural industry across Africa. The goal was to develop a platform that would help them handle climate change by making tools and coaching available and improving and increasing the capacity of the land.
Preventing obstacles
The project was built on CLIMTAG, a web-based dashboard that provides custom climate information to over 20 countries on the African continent. This dashboard contains data from the past and projections for the future – such as information about the beginning of the wet season. We enriched that data with various user-friendly features. When we developed the platform, we included various stakeholders such as governments and climate experts.
In addition to handy tools, the platform also contains insights about possible obstacles that complicate climate adaptation, as well as potential solutions. Furthermore, it can help stakeholders request International Climate Finance, a European initiative that offers support to developing countries to tackle climate change.
Highlights from the project
Some highlights from the KLIMPALA project:
- We built an intuitive dashboard with agroecological information for 23 countries across Africa.
- We supported projects focusing on climate adaptation in Uganda, Senegal and Malawi.
- We offer stakeholders insights into obstacles that make climate adaptation more difficult and ways to tackle those obstacles.
This project was financed by the Flemish government’s International Climate Fund.
