This strategic basic research project aims to develop a new value chain for the Flemish bio-economy through inventive wood refining towards highly valuable agro-industrial chemicals (BioWood).

This value chain will be based on innovative conversion technologies, that transform local, cheap and available woody biomass into products for agro-industrial applications. VITO is one of the research partners and investigates enzymatic conversion of sugar moieties.

The project is funded by the Foundation for Scientific Research (FWO).
