Drones are increasingly being used throughout the world in order to gather data. This spring, VITO MapEO launched an end-to-end solution for carrying out drone-based analyses of agricultural plots of land. The use of this solution allows seed breeders, agricultural consultancy companies and other users to deploy drones in order to support their cultivation and selection programmes.
With the commencement of the European HEATSTORE project six demonstration projects in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Switzerland aim to get technologies for the seasonal underground storage of heat transferred to industry and on to market.
Sustainable processes go hand in hand with cyclical processes. By recovering metals such as boron, chromium and cobalt, companies are not only able to valorise these critical raw materials, but also reduce their costs for the final treatment of aqueous streams. In the Get-A-Met project, VITO is working together with Ghent University and the KU Leuven to develop a unique and affordable concept that will be ready for use in the near future.
On 10 October 2018, the inhabitants of the city of Mechelen received information about the results of the two citizen science projects. The first one is the CurieuzeNeuzen project in which measurements have been carried out with passive samplers throughout Flanders and the other one is the citizen science initiative Meet Mee Mechelen, started in Mechelen as part of an EU project, Ground Truth 2.0.
